Overview

As the Fleet Maintenance Manager, you are responsible for the operations of the MDI distribution garage and direct a team of skilled mechanics accountable for inspecting, maintaining and repairing tractors and trailers. As well as responsible for ensuring all garage equipment is in proper working condition and meets all operational and safety guidelines. As a leader, you will develop the operating plan and the budget for the garage and are accountable for achieving overall operating results consistent with individual and company performance goals. You are also responsible for accurate and complete records of maintenance and repairs, fuel, tire and parts purchasing and inventory management in accordance with company policy, federal , state and local regulations.

Responsibilities

1Provide reliable and safe vehicles and equipment for MDI use; oversee equipment inspections, preventative maintenance and service    
2Responsible for vehicle maintenance schedules and records to meet DOT, DMV, and MDI standards and regulations.      
3Ensure safe work practices and conditions and maintain a safe environment for team members and visitors at the garage in accordance with company policies and health and safety regulations
4Review and evaluate performance of all vehicles and equipment, address excessive wear and tear or high failure rates and takes corrective action, as needed  
5Assess daily and weekly output, identify trends in productivity and direct the allocation of people, parts, tools and equipment to address day-to-day and week-to-week demand for maintenance
 and repairs               
6Oversee scheduling of work teams and initiate short and long term planning to ensure the needs of the business are met under different and changing business conditions
7Prepare the operating budgets for the garage, review and finalize operating budgets with the Director of Facilities Engineering, and develop and implement work processes to ensure
 achievement of budgetary and service goals            
8Lead the development of improved work processes and procedures to enhance productivity and effectiveness of assigned work teams, equipment and space; accountable for achieving
 incremental results from the implementation of these improvements           
9Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of records pertaining to maintenance, fuels, lubricants, tires and parts purchasing and inventories   
10Maintain fuel island in compliance with government regulations and conducts all monthly testing.        
11Recommend replacement of vehicles and equipment based on assessment of service and maintenance costs versus replacement cost. Includes annual specification review to support tractor
 and trailer replenishment cycles.             
12Stay abreast of new and emerging technologies and efficiencies to improve vehicle performance, driver satisfaction and the maintenance of vehicles.  
13Conduct performance appraisals and coach direct reports to enhance individual and team performance; assist in the development of individual and team performance improvement goals to
 support achievement of company objective             
14Identify maintenance employee training requirements and ensure successful completion         
15Participate in the identification and selection of maintenance personnel as required          
16Negotiate service agreements to ensure cost efficiencies            
17Manages damaged or wrecked vehicles, dispatching a wrecker when necessary, and working with the adjusters on repairs.     
18On call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week in case of accidents, etc.           
19Complete special projects and other job-related duties as designed.           

 

Qualifications

1Eight (8) years work experience in vehicle/equipment maintenance, parts and fuel management and/or transportation or an equivalent combination of education and experience
2Demonstarted two to four years leadership position            
3ASE certification preferred              
4Strong analytical skills and working knowledge of operational analysis           
5Computer literate with experience using MS Office and fleet management systems          
6Technical knowledge and skills related to the internal combustion, diesel , and electric powered vehicles and material handling equipment   
7Strong leadership skills including team facilitation, training, team building and motivation         
8Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
