Overview

The primary responsibilities of a Guard are to protect company assets, ensure the safety of personnel and visitors, and support continuity of operations. Duties include monitoring access, preventing theft or vandalism, and responding to emergencies to reduce risk and operational disruption. The role requires the ability to walk on uneven terrain, move through warehouse areas, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods and distances, and lift or move objects as necessary during inspections or emergency situations.

Security guards operate across the entire facility, including:

 

  • Guard shacks (e.g., verifying paperwork, scanning bills of lading, assigning yard spots) 
  • Warehouse perimeters and entry points (e.g., controlling access, checking IDs, logging visitors) 
  • Interior zones (e.g., monitoring surveillance systems, inspecting equipment and safety hazards) 
  • Emergency response coordination (e.g., assisting in fire control protocols, refrigeration alarms, or safety incidents)

Responsibilities

  • Verify the credentials of all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate visitor logs.
  • Direct inbound and commercial drivers to designated areas and log arrivals in PowerDock.
  • Direct visitors to the designated parking area and immediately inform the relevant host or escort.
  • Conduct regular CCTV monitoring and routine patrols between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., as well as during all periods when the warehouse is closed, to identify any suspicious activity or potential safety hazards.
  • Respond promptly to alarms, accidents, or emergencies, such as refrigeration failures or fire control procedures.
  • Record incidents, maintain logs, and report safety or security concerns to supervisors.
  • Work closely with Loss Prevention and Food Safety departments to minimize shrinkage and maintain strict adherence to OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • Greet drivers, contractors, vendors, and other visitors upon arrival at their vehicles to identify the purpose of their visit and identify their designated point of contact.
  • Provide directions, assist with paperwork, and facilitate the efficient movement of inbound and outbound traffic.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be available to work a rotational 12-hour shift schedule.
  • Basic computer skills are required, with an emphasis on proficiency in MS Office.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication abilities when interacting with employees, business clients, vendors, third-party partners, and visitors to the premises.
  • Ability to observe and monitor activity to identify any potentially suspicious behavior
  • Demonstrates accuracy in completing and reviewing documentation to identify and correct errors.
  • Candidates should demonstrate the ability to reason effectively, as well as possess foundational skills in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Capacity to respond effectively and appropriately in high-pressure situations.
  • Demonstrates integrity and maintains professional conduct.
