Overview

The Business Intelligence Analyst will contribute to the company's success through providing data, analytics and tools to support the business as needed. They will work with their business partners to enable short-term and long-term decision making by partnering heavily with the centralized Alex Lee IT department in order to facilitate the delivery of timely data, reporting and dashboards.  Financial data is at the core, but the team will be responsible for delivering tools that provide a balanced view of the business including operational metrics and activity drivers 
 
To be successful in this role, this individual must have a desire and education required to iterate with business partners as they work towards a final solution.  They will attentively listen to their partner's business needs and either directly deliver or work with their Manager to successfully meet expectations. This person should also have good presentation skills, experience working with large amounts of data (transactional, point of sale and/or customer data preferrable) and ability to build reports (standardized, interactive self-service and/ or adhoc)

Responsibilities

The Business Intelligence Analyst, will partner with an assigned operational area to deliver or help to deliver the below critical business deliverables (as required):                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

Developing and managing business intelligence solutions for the organization                                                  

  • Learn / understand the needs of the business.                
  • Analyze and synthesize.
  • Deliver and maintain reporting and analysis tools.

Streamlining approach towards reporting and analytics (i.e., moving from Excel to BI tools) where appropriate to improve business processes and efficiencies.                                                                                    

  • Seek out opportunity for improvement and move business towards more efficient ways of working.
  • Move from data to insights ‒ Shift from disconnected spreadsheets to tools that provide descriptive > diagnostic > predictive > prescriptive capabilities.                                                                                       

Collaborating with IT team members for the purpose of sourcing data and executing the company’s mission                                                                                                                                                                     

  • Translate the needs of the business to technical resources delivering access to required data.
  • Ensures reliability / accuracy of information for end users.

Identifying data needs for the organization                                                                                                                        

  • Helps determine what information is required to drive better decision-making.
  • Comfortable with different data formats and 3rd party data and tools

Training and supporting user community on use of analytical solutions.                                                               

  • Provide initial and on-going support as needed to assist end users with tools and solutions                                                                                                                        

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Analytics or similar quantitative field of study; Master's Degree preferred
  • Strong desire to learn analytics (financial & operational) with some prior experience (either professional or academic)
  • Experience working in Microsoft tools (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of other business intelligence tools (i.e., Cognos, MicroStrategy, PowerBI) preferred
  • Knowledge of Database querying tools, Visualization tools and/ or Statistical tools (SQL, Power Query/DAX, SAS, SPSS, R, etc.) preferred.
